Things You Can Contribute To Charities Aside from Money

Many of us love to support charities. Helping people not only gives us an opportunity to change someone’s life, but it also helps us become a better and responsible individual. However, not all of us have lots of cash in our pockets to donate to charities. Fortunately, there are many ways that we can do to get involved in helping people without donating cash. Here are some:

Make something that you can give.

Remember, it’s not all about money. While most charities ask for financial help in order to maintain and continue their service, it’s not the only thing that they accept. Many charities collect a variety of items, such as clothing, blankets, caps, toys, and even homemade meals to help those who are in need. For instance, clothing and blankets are needed to protect the victims of calamities and shelter the injured animals. Caps and toys are used to make children with cancer happy and comfortable. Homemade meals and instant foods are needed to feed the poor.

Things You Can Contribute To Charities

Try to stitch, knit, or assemble some products that will provide comfort and happiness to other people. If you’re a great cook, you can also make some delicious snacks to feed homeless people. Don’t worry if you’re not good at crafting or cooking as there are many other things you can donate, such as your hair (if you have long hair), your music, your old shoes, and some unused books.

Spend your time doing charity work.

Another way to be able to contribute to charities is by donating your time and helping charity members do their work, such as taking care of the patients, building some structures, repairing chairs, and teaching the kids. If you have lots of spare time, volunteering is an excellent way to help other people and make yourself gratified.

If you don’t have a lot of free time, though, you can still help by visiting charities near your home and offering whatever you think may be beneficial to the members. Even if it’s just simply watering the plants, painting the walls, or sweeping the floor, it’s definitely a great help.

Regularly donate blood.

Blood donation is another great way to help people without donating cash. According to Blood Centers of the Pacific, more than 4.5 million patients in the U.S. and Canada need blood transfusions. If you donate, you’re not just able to help hospitals and other charities make their job easier, but you’re also helping to save someone’s life. Did you know that one donation can help save the lives of up to three people? So consider finding the nearest blood center near your area and set-up an appointment.

If you don’t mind spending more time in the clinic, you can also donate plasma and platelets, which are greatly needed for patients with chronic diseases.

Take your old household items to charitable organizations.

Household items are also greatly appreciated by charitable organizations. If you have old household items that you no longer use, consider giving them to charities instead of throwing them or allowing them to pile up in your basement. You can definitely give a new life to all of your old items if you put them in the hands of those who need them. Your old washing machine can be used to wash donated clothes for patients. Your old set of cooking items can be used to prepare meals for the kids. Your old television can be used to make someone else happy.

So, look for items around your home that you can donate. If you’ve already bought a new television in, or a new camera in Amazon, then donate your old stuff to a local charity that accepts such donations. Other things that you can donate are tables, chairs, kitchen utensils, furniture, computer, sports equipment, and tools.
